Event Notes:
Browyn Thompson is the only Australian long jumper to jump 7.00m
In history there have been many champion Australian female field athletes, including Bronwyn Thompson, Dani Samuels, Bronwyn Eagles, Alison Inverarity and Jane Flemming just to name a few. We have also had Emma George break world records throughout the 90's in the women's pole vault, while Louise McPaul and Joana Stone have both also starred in the women's javelin.
Most recently though it has been the performances of discus thrower Dani Samuels that have made athletic fans across the nation stand up and take notice. The 2009 World Champion is starting to become one of Australia's best ever field athletes, and if she can take home gold in London 2012 she will only enhance her reputation.
