World Title to Pearson, Olympic Qualifier to Trengove and Australian Junior Record for Stein

There have certainly been some great highlights from our Australian athletes both in Australia and overseas. There were some magical moments over in Istanbul, Turkey where Sally Pearson was simply irresistible in winning the 60m hurdles, while Henry Frayne took home silver in the men's long jump. Then on Sunday in Japan we saw the debut of Jess Trengove in the women's marathon, and with no expectations produced a stunning 2:31.02 to almost guarantee herself a place in the plane to the London Olympics. Then finally there was a new Australian U/20 record by Jake Stein in the decathlon at the Victorian State titles, not to mention the farewell performance of Tamsyn Manou in the women's 800m. So where do we start? Well we'll start at the top and work our way down!

World Titles on Offer in Turkey - Australians In the Medal Hunt

The Australian team for the World Indoor Championships, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, is only small in number, but you can't deny just how much talent is in the team. Led by Sally Pearson (60m and 60m hurdles) the Australian team could easily come away from the Championships with 2 to 3 medals and maybe even more.

Olympic Trials - One Step Closer to London

The scene is set for what should be a wonderful two days of competition at the Olympic Trials in Melbourne commencing Friday. While many suggest that our Australian team for the upcoming London Olympics is just about set, there will many athletes leading into the trials believing that they have a realistic opportunity of pushing for selection in either Melbourne or prior to the final selectors meeting - on or before the 11th June (athletes nominated for the marathon will be notified on or before the 14th May). The domestic season has already produced so many highlights, with the likes of Alana Boyd, Henry Frayne, Sally Pearson and Collis Birmingham already shining in their respective events. So now it comes down to the Olympic trials, where many athletes will be looking forward to cementing their spot on the Australian team for London while others will be trying to edge ever so closer to that magical "A" qualifier and that Olympic dream.
