Gregson Ready to Fire in Doha

It's been a difficult period for Ryan Gregson over the past 18 months. After such an amazing 2010, where he set a new National Record of 3.31.06 for the 1500m in Monaco, Gregson has been frustrated by injuries which have led to a best time since 2010 of only 3.36.64.

Aussie Field Stars Ready to Shine in Daegu

With less than 48 hours to go before the start of the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea, all of our Australian athletes are readying themselves for their individual battles against the worlds best.

On the track the highlights should come from the likes of Sally Pearson in the 100m hurdles and Jeff Riseley in the 1500m, but it's in the field that there are high expectations for multiple top 8 performances. Leading the way will be our very own world no.1 Mitchell Watt in the long jump, but he will well supported by World and Olympic champion Steve Hooker in the pole vault and 2009 World Champion Dani Samuels in the discus throw. The three athletes mentioned were all stars of the Australian team in Berlin in 2009, and we again expect so much of the trio in 2011. The question is can the likes of Benn Harradine (discus throw), Kim Mickle (javelin throw), Jarrod Bannister (javlein throw) and Alana Boyd (pole vault) join in on the fun in Daegu and surprise with medal winning performances over the 9 days of competition?

Weekend Update - Buckman Just Misses in Hungary

It has certainly been an amazing weekend of athletics for Australian athletes - specifically Mitchell Watt, who added 5cm's to the Australian long jump record with his 8.54m 'monster' jump in Stockholm. Away from Watt's magical night of jumping in Sweden there were good results from Tamsyn Manou (2.00.78) and Robbie Crowther (8.12m PB). The wait is now on to see if the likes of Manou can force their way onto the Australian team for the upcoming World Championhsips without an "A" qualfier.
