Big Breakthroughs in the United States - Williamsz, McEntee
After such an amazing weekend for our Olympic hopefuls, where we saw Steve Hooker, Ryan Gregson, Dale Stevenson and Chris Erickson all deliver "A" qualifiers for London, it was the turn of our athletes competing in the United States to continue the rush for Olympic selection.
Stevenson had already started the impressive results over in the US, with his massive personal best of 20.63m in the shot put at a meeting in Clemson on Saturday. It improved his PB by 47cm's and was easily above the 'A' standard for London, which is set at 20.50m. This result coupled with the A qualifiers from Hooker, Gregson and Erickson must have sparked both Jordan Williamsz and Sam McEntee into action when they lined up for a 1500m race in Swarthmore, PA on Monday (US Time).

Over the past week we have seen our Australian track and field stars rise to the occasion. Last week Scott Martin added his name to the list for Olympic selection (throwing 65.63m in the men's discus over in the United States), and then on Friday night we saw Steve Hooker (pole vault), Ryan Gregson (1500m) and Kathryn Mitchell (javelin) all produce 'A' standards for the London Olympics.

We take a look at all of the results over the past 7 days.

The final selection meeting for the London Olympics is set down for the 11th June, with many of our track and field athletes still trying to find that magical Olympic "A" standard prior to this important deadline.
Over in Japan it was the case of so close but yet so far for Melissa Breen as she again ran a whisker of the Olympic A qualifier for the 100m of 11.29s. In her heat at the Ode Memorial meeting in Hiroshima, Breen clocked an impressive 11.30s (+1.4m/s) to again lower her PB, but still came up short of the London qualifier (after initially seeing 11.27s come up on the trackside timer - only to see the time rounded up by a very surprising 0.03s).
