World Title to Pearson, Olympic Qualifier to Trengove and Australian Junior Record for Stein
There have certainly been some great highlights from our Australian athletes both in Australia and overseas. There were some magical moments over in Istanbul, Turkey where Sally Pearson was simply irresistible in winning the 60m hurdles, while Henry Frayne took home silver in the men's long jump. Then on Sunday in Japan we saw the debut of Jess Trengove in the women's marathon, and with no expectations produced a stunning 2:31.02 to almost guarantee herself a place in the plane to the London Olympics. Then finally there was a new Australian U/20 record by Jake Stein in the decathlon at the Victorian State titles, not to mention the farewell performance of Tamsyn Manou in the women's 800m. So where do we start? Well we'll start at the top and work our way down!

The Australian team for the World Indoor Championships, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, is only small in number, but you can't deny just how much talent is in the team. Led by Sally Pearson (60m and 60m hurdles) the Australian team could easily come away from the Championships with 2 to 3 medals and maybe even more.

The excitement of the London Olympics is building, and when the first event commences on the 3rd August the expectations of our Australian athletes will again be high. We are very fortunate to have the likes of Jared Tallent, Mitchell Watt, Steve Hooker and the IAAF Female Athlete of the Year, Sally Pearson, leading the way, but we will also be looking for the next up and coming star to step into the limelight.

Well it's official, Chris Erickson knows his track and field when it comes to Australian athletes. At the completion of the Runnerstribe World Championship tipping competition, Erickson came out on top with a total of 18 points (and also picked the number of medals Australia was going to win - 3!). There were four tipsters who tied for 2nd place (with 17 points), although when the tie breaker was included it was Alan Graham and Matt Beckenham who both had three medals as their selections and therefore took home the prizes on offer.

After 5 days of competition it looks as though Chris Erickson has the edge over his competition in the Runner's Tribe World Championship Tipping Competition. Chris leads with 8 points, from Alan Graham and Rick Armstrong, who are both on 7 points. Interesting to see that both Chris and Alan tipped Regan Lamble to place in the top-16 - nice tip! (ed. although Chris would have had the inside tip on this one!!). Also interesting to see that Chris has tipped Nathan Deakes to pick up a bronze medal in the 50km walk, so we wait with great interest to see if Australia can bring home a medal from the walking events!
