Drive to London Gaining Momentum
Over the past week we have seen our Australian track and field stars rise to the occasion. Last week Scott Martin added his name to the list for Olympic selection (throwing 65.63m in the men's discus over in the United States), and then on Friday night we saw Steve Hooker (pole vault), Ryan Gregson (1500m) and Kathryn Mitchell (javelin) all produce 'A' standards for the London Olympics.

It's been a difficult period for Ryan Gregson over the past 18 months. After such an amazing 2010, where he set a new National Record of 3.31.06 for the 1500m in Monaco, Gregson has been frustrated by injuries which have led to a best time since 2010 of only 3.36.64.

The Olympic Trials are officially over and our athletes now look forward to being selected on the Australian team for the London Olympics in August. An initial team will be announced over the coming days by Athletics Australia, although the announcement shouldn't throw up any real surprises.

In what is seen as last chance meetings for many of our Australian track and field stars, there are is no doubt that there will be some nervous athletes over the coming days. The meetings held in Stockholm, Sweden and Gent, Belgium will see the likes of Lauren Boden, Tamsyn Manou, Ryan Gregson and Henry Frayne all look to set "A" qualifiers for next months World Championships in Daegu, Korea.
